Women's Lumber Corps Logo design from 'The Land Woman' February 1943, p4 The Women's Lumber Corps was a different branch of the Women's Land Army and was started in 1942 due to the German profession of Norway triggering a lack of imported wood. This branch received even less recognition than the normal Land Woman.


Their badge revealed a fir tree, rather than the sheaf of wheat for the Women's Land Army. More so in this type of work, the women worked alongside men who had to teach them everything about slicing of the tree, through to filling it onto a lorry. The work didn't just include the wielding of an axe, however likewise the experienced work of measuring of trees and the undertaking of the administrative work out in the forests.


This developed some barriers between the various branches of the Women's Land Army, as Land Girls often thought the Wood Corps had the 'soft alternative'.
